What data does Fleeti Telematics collect?

Fleeti Telematics reports a wide range of data: location, mileage, operating hours, fuel consumption, driver identity, driving events, temperature and asset status. Data from all your vehicles and machines comes together on a single platform: Fleeti Telematics. Fleet tracking software is only as good as the data that feeds it.

Which fleets is Fleeti Telematics for?

Fleeti Telematics is built for any business fleet, even when assets differ in brand, age and sometimes country.

Four or five manufacturers, light vehicles that have nothing in common with the machinery, rented equipment coming and going. Fleeti adapts to that fleet without asking you to standardise it first.

Telematics by industry

Four industries account for most Fleeti Telematics deployments: construction, transport, mobile services and rental. Each relies on different data.

Operating hours matter more than mileage: they are what gets billed, and they show whether a machine is working or idle. Machinery and vans report to the same place, and an alert goes out as soon as an asset leaves the site outside working hours.

How a vehicle connects to Fleeti Telematics

Fleeti captures data in three different ways, and a single fleet can combine all three. The method depends on the vehicle's age and the level of detail you need.

Frequently asked questions about telematics

What is telematics?
Telematics is the remote transmission of vehicle data to a software platform. A connected vehicle sends its location, fuel use, mileage, operating hours and operating status in real time, with no refresh interval. This data is then used to manage a fleet: servicing, costs, safety and compliance.
What is the difference between telematics and a vehicle GPS tracker?
A GPS tracker gives a position. A telematics system gives the position and the context: who was driving, at what speed, with what fuel use, over how many engine hours. GPS answers “where is the vehicle”. Telematics answers “how is it being used”.
Does every vehicle need a device?
No. Recent vehicles from any of the 35 brands integrated with Fleeti report directly through their factory telematics, with no hardware. Older vehicles get a plug-and-play device that needs no technician or wiring. Only specific sensors, such as the immobiliser or the temperature probe, require a technician visit.
Does it work on a multi-brand fleet?
Yes, and it is the main use case for Fleeti Telematics. Assets connected directly through the manufacturer and those fitted with a device report to the same platform, with the same indicators. Manufacturer integration covers passenger cars and vans as well as construction and agricultural machinery.
How much does a business telematics solution cost?
Cost is calculated per asset per month. Three factors determine it: the connection method (manufacturer integration removes hardware costs), the additional sensors chosen, and the size of the fleet. An initial scoping session identifies which vehicles can connect without a device.
Is tracking company vehicles legal?
Yes, under certain conditions. In France, the CNIL (data protection authority) requires employers to inform employees, state a specific purpose, limit the retention period and allow tracking to be switched off outside working hours. Similar rules apply in most countries where Fleeti operates. The platform includes a private mode and template employee information documents.
What happens in areas without network coverage?
The device stores data in its internal memory and sends it as soon as the network returns. Nothing is lost; only real-time reporting is paused. Multi-network connectivity switches automatically to whichever operator is available, which matters on remote sites and at border crossings.
How long is data kept?
One year. Trip and temperature history remains available over a rolling twelve months, which covers evidence needs in case of disputes, audits or claims. In France, the law limits this data retention to 2 months.
Which vehicle and machinery brands are natively integrated?
Thirty-five brands report their data without a device. Light vehicles and vans: Abarth, Alfa Romeo, Audi, BMW, Chrysler, Citroën, Cupra, Dacia, Dodge, DS Automobiles, Fiat, Ford, Jeep, Kia, Lancia, Lexus, Maserati, Mercedes-Benz, MINI, Opel, Peugeot, RAM, Renault, SEAT, Škoda, Tesla, Toyota, Vauxhall, Volkswagen and Volvo, covering both Cars and Trucks. Machinery: Caterpillar, Hitachi, Hyundai, John Deere and Manitou. A vehicle or machine from a brand not on this list connects with a plug-and-play Fleeti device.
What do OEM, OBD, CAN bus and geofencing mean?
OEM refers to the vehicle manufacturer: an OEM integration retrieves data directly from the factory-fitted unit, with no added hardware. OBD is the standard diagnostic port a telematics device plugs into. The CAN bus is the internal network that carries data between the vehicle's control units. Geofencing means drawing a virtual zone on the map and triggering an alert on every entry or exit.
